Delicious Green Smoothies
The most popular recipe from the past week would have to be our Seabreeze Green Smoothie. This beauty has quickly become a favorite among our fans, and at home. The flavor explosion of the pineapple, cranberry, ginger and grapefruit give a light refreshing bite leaving little notice of greens flavor.
But don’t be fooled. This powerhouse of nutrition provides you with an enormous amount of anti-oxidants, Protein, Omega-3, Vitamins C, A, K, Calcium, Iron and a whole lot more. A nice cleansing smoothie for your liver and kidneys complete with a solid immunity boost. Enjoy.

SeaBreeze Green Smoothie Recipe
1 T chia seeds
1/4 cup cranberries (we freeze ‘em)
1/2 cup fresh pineapple
1 1/2 ripe banana
~1 inch fresh peeled ginger
2 Kale leaves (stem removed)
2 hearty handfuls of Spinach
Fresh Juice of 1/2 grapefruit
2 cups water (or to desired consistency)

A Kindle Book
I downloaded this book to my Amazon Kindle a while back. Being in the business, I couldn’t resist this little gem for the price. It is a very inclusive recipe book. Meaning, that it doesn’t exclude anyone because they may want to add milk or yogurt to their smoothie, even eggs. The Table of Contents is neatly organized into 5 chapters, listing the name of each recipe with a little symbol next to it to further clarify it into its dietary category. Oh, and I LOVE that with my Kindle I can point to a recipe, click enter, and it will go right to it. This is exciting to the not-so-techno me because I am still learning about and am wowed by such advanced features! And here I thought it was just to read a book. Hah!
TIPS Included
Many of the recipes are followed by a “BLENDER QUEEN’S TIP:” which I have actually found pretty useful. I never thought to use my almond pulp for a facial exfoliator after making almond mylk. I usually compost it or throw it in the freezer to use later for a raw pie crust or crackers. The Blender Queen is also pretty thoughtful when it comes to suggesting alternatives for possibly hard-to-find ingredients, which is great because sometimes I’ll just simply bypass a recipe if I see something I don’t have or is too hard to get, rather than just thinking up a replacement. There are a few places where undesirable ingredients are included, such as sugar and soymilk, but this is a small crime considering all the other good things the book offers. When I was learning to cook, I thought that I had to follow a recipe EXACTLY and would not dare to omit an ingredient or (whispering) substitute for something else. Now I am quite comfortable with seeing the bigger picture of what the recipe is and discerning how to make it meet our family’s needs.
Useful Recipes
Being somewhat of a blender queen myself, I don’t usually refer to other people’s recipes for my blended concoctions. However, I have found some refreshing ideas in this book for what to make my son. He’s 6 and is pretty easy to please when it comes to smoothies, but it’s fun to change it up sometimes. The Monkey Shines recipe is a hit (I substitute almond butter for the peanut butter) and so is The King’s Shake. What’s in these? Well, you’re going to have to download the book to find out!
International Recipes
Chapter 4 is entitled “Breakfast Around the World”, and it presents combinations of flavors and spices that I have simply not thought about before. I love the Caribbean Cardamom and Greek Island Getaway smoothies. And by far the most exciting and unique smoothie to me is the Chocolate Wheatgrass Smoothie. Yum!
The author promises an entire series of Blender books for the Kindle. I look forward to them.

What do puffballs, aquarium gravel, and peppers have in common?…
They all made our family laugh like crazy today!
Our son is now 6, so we decided he was ready to enter the April Fool’s Day ring. We told him yesterday what it was all about. He was pretty excited to see what would happen today.
My sweetie is doing an Arise & Shine colon cleanse right now and uses their psyllium husks for his regular cleansing shakes. So, I emptied out the psyllium package and replaced the contents with aquarium gravel. Ha! Well, he did sort of a reverse passive trick on me by not giving me the satisfaction of my joke, saying that he decided not to take the psyllium today because he was feeling ill. We still got to have a good laugh and I got to feel quite clever.
The puffballs were reserved for my son. We emptied a package of strawberries we had in the fridge and replaced them with the balls. When he went for his fruity snack, he found those instead. We all howled with laughter. It was so fun to yell out “April Fool’s!” to him and have him just shake with laughter.
Then his dad got him too. He served him up a bowl of the peppers instead of the pasta he was expecting. It was so funny to see his reaction to these things he emphatically dislikes.
And the grande finale was…we short-sheeted our son’s bed, which took some crafty calculation since he’s only 4 feet tall.
There were lots and lots of other funny foolings and clever comebacks which filled our home with laughter and smiles, and a tad of suspicion. It served to be a day that brought us closer together and a great reminder of how light-heartedness and joviality and just plain ol’ fun enhances our wellness and life. I have a feeling there’s going to be a joke or two, or three, coming our way tomorrow!
What made you laugh today?

As most of you probably already know, our son Jonathan (“Jonny”) has been drinking green smoothies since he was about 10 months old and loving them. Now that he is six years old, not much has changed. He still loves his green smoothies and oftentimes requests them but the exciting change is that he takes initiative and makes green smoothies on his own. He even offers them to his friends when they come over to play.
He has Been helping make green smoothies since he was old enough to sit on the counter and stuff in the greens at about 1 1/2. We went on a camping trip when he was 2 1/2 and when we asked him what he wanted to eat while we were camping he said “gree smooie”. It was because of him we brought along out manual, hand crank juicer so that we could make his daily green smoothie for him while we were camping.
While we were doing a recent 30-day green breakfast challenge he surprised us one morning. When we got out of bed he approached us and said “I’ll make the green smoothie this morning for us”. And he did. That started his initiative to make them on his own.
While Jonny does prefer some green smoothies over others, and he doesn’t care for Dad’s super green with lots of dandelion, the truth is he has many many favorites. We always make it a point to ask him how his green smoothie is. His responses over the years have been darling. Some of them you’ve read here on out blog, like “This is too yummy to share”, and “This is the best smoothie I ever had in my life”. That doesn’t stop him from saying “That’s the best green smoothie ever! It’s my favorite”.
As parents, the joy in our hearts is huge knowing that he is not only eating so well and making wonderful food choices on his own, but he also is motivated to make green smoothies for his family and share them with his friends.
Thank you Jonny for being you and bringing more sunshine in our life everyday!
