GS Fast Day 2, Stinging Nettles!
« on: March 14, 2009, 10:37:30 AM »
I made it through the evening last night which is the hardest part the first few days. There have been many first day cleanses where I made it half way through the day. But yesterday I had some hot tea, talked myself down from any doubts and went to sleep.
My grocery store is so awesome to have FRESH stinging nettles. I've been scared of them but after some research believed that they were safe if blended.

So todays first batch of smoothies:
Young ginger
Oranges
Apple
Stinging Nettles
1t chlorella

I'll keep you posted!

Way to go on getting through your first day!

Lucky you to be able to find FRESH stinging nettles in a grocery store! I love the things but only have the opportunity to eat them when I find them in the wild (nothing better than fresh nettle tea on the trail).

So did you love the nettle smoothie? How much nettles did you put in your smoothie.

Indeed, the beginning is the hardest part of a fast - tea, introspection and rest helps get through it.

I'd love to hear how your fast went and how you liked Stinging Nettles.

I just purchased some stinging nettles from a local herb festival, to grow in my garden.  I was told that before eating them they needed to be steamed or dried, not to use them whole due to the chemicals that produce the sting.  So can you add them to a smoothie safely, without first steaming or dehydrating them?

I am very eager to use all the greens I am growing in my garden and this seems like the perfect way to get the best out of them!  ;D

Well Victoria, I personally have not added stinging nettle to green smoothies nor do I know anyone who has (one reason why I've been excited to hear more about Birdie's experience).

I certainly have enjoyed them as fresh made tea and in soups. I am going to experiment with them in a green smoothie with the next fresh stinging nettle opportunity I have.

I'm planting my greens in the garden this week so I too am very excited about the morning ritual of harvesting some fresh greens for the breakfast green smoothie!
