Nasty Smoothie
« on: October 31, 2009, 11:14:21 AM »
Okay, I was trying to make a couple smoothies without the recipies.   Bad luck...  I have found that brocoli stocks have a very srong odor.  Here is what I have (I am living in Ecuador with the U.S. Army), can anyone let me know what stuff I should use, and what stuff will give my smoothie a pungent odor?

Cucumber, beet greens, rasish greens, rasishes, basil, arugola, watercress, green onion sprouts, zuchini, mint, swiss chard, Green pepper, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, pineapple, apples, pears, celery, oranges, aloe.

Forgot to mention:   I have a Vita mixer and a juicer (though mangos and pears don't kick out much juice on it).  I know the basic recepies work, but I'd like something using some more of the greans we have available - we don't have KALE :-(  Is there a way to make Brocolli taste better?  Oh, and I tied beets - not my taste....

Thanks!

There is really just one "rule" to follow when making smoothies: If you use fruit, feel free to add whatever leafy greens you want but avoid including complex carbohydrate vegetables (such as beets, carrots, zucchini, etc...) and foods with a lot of fat.

You have a decent selection to work with. If you don't use fruit, put anything in it. If you do make with fruit then use anything on your list except: radishes, zucchini, and green pepper.

Ultimately it is about taste... what tastes good to you. Sounds like you don't like broccoli, so that's one to avoid. Just keep trying combinations and take note of what you do like. Go easy with aloe as that is very "strong" flavored.

You might want to try this:

radish greens
swiss chard
pineapple
blueberries

Yum!
