Title: Turnip and Collard Greens Post by: rappody on November 21, 2009, 01:44:04 PM Does anyone use turnip or collard greens in their smoothies? I'm just wondering because right now they are in season and soooo cheap. I was thinking of buying a bag and trying it but thought I'd get opinions here first.

Collards are pretty much a staple for our green smoothies. And I always use turnip greens when available - I'm the "strange guy" at the farmers market asking people for there turnip tops because I have no interest in the bottoms. They are especially abundant now and are a fantastic source of anti-oxidants and Vitamins. When choosing collards, get smaller leaves that are dark green as they tend to be fresher and milder in flavor. Give them a try. Also, don't pass up on the beet greens and the various varieties of kale available this time of year Title: Re: Turnip and Collard Greens Post by: dreamer on November 28, 2009, 10:03:16 PM I used to use collard greens every once in a while. They are more bitter than kale but are still good in smoothies.
