Well I have been doing GS's for about 6 months and they are by far the bulk of my diet. I do eat other foods like peanuts, some chips with homemade hot sauce (vice) and other normal foods but I do go on three to five day bouts of nothing but green smoothies and yes my poo looks almost the same leaving is it did going in. I don't think its anything to worry about, what else can your body do to make it different? I have noticed when I go out to eat and consume obviously more fat and other bad stuff, I'm now not so use to that it kind of tears me up inside like my body is rebelling. Its not terrible most of the time but I can tell my body likes the GS much better. My cholestorl has droped by over 100 points and I have lost 25 lbs. I went from 210 to 185 in 6 months and have dropped from a 36inch waist to a 32 and probably need to drop down to a 31 or 30 now as the 32's are kind of baggy. My face and neck are much smaller (thinner) and I look more like I did in my early 30s I'm almost 50. I don't crave anything at all anymore and never ever eat fast food period. If its in a box or a bag I pretty much don't eat it either except the dang tortilla chips and salsa that my daughter makes my make all the time, I am hooked on that but I limit it a lot more then I use to. Over all I feel much younger and am into clothes now unlike the past 15 or 20 years where I would just put on jeans and a t shirt and looked pretty trashy in my opionion. Now I dress nice and look a lot better and feel great. Just thought I would share my experioenes. Spell check is not working sorry!

Suger is like salt to me if you force yourself to do without it you will eventualy get use to not needing it. I have all but rid my diet of salt and when I do eat a chip or something processed which is not very often I cant belive how salty it is. Same with sugar, I started drinking ice tea with no sweatner and have gotten use to it and now I can actualy taste the tea. I so use stevia in my coffee I actually have a stevia plant but also use store bought stevia too.

Well my neighbor went out of town and I borrowed his vitamix 5200 and wow what a difference. My smoothies are truly smooth. Much better then with the Kitchen aid. The kitchen aid is a good starter to see if you will stick with it but the vitamix or Blendtec is the way to go. I personally will buy the Blendtec becuase the vitamix has a few design flaws in my opinion. The whole thing is just way too big but mostly the jar is to narrow at the bottom and things get clogged up too easily. Great blender in the end and a super work horse but I prefer the lower profile and wider jar of the Blendtec and will go in that direction for sure. The vitamix appears to be old technology and an old design, they should re-designed the thing and bring it into this century I think.

Hello nutty,
If you want raw nut butters - adding oil is typically a necessary "evil". Most raw nuts just don't have enough oil to make creamy butter by themselves. Roasting most nuts results in them releasing more oil so that creamy butters can be made with little to no oil. We actually have changed to making our nut butters with our juicer using the crush screen. This has resulted in the smoothest - no oil added butters for us. I personally haven't made peanut butter but tips in general include: - keep working the tamper, the less oil means the more time and more tamping necessary - do about 2-3 cups of nuts at a time - add oil slowly Here are suggestions from Vitamix |

Thank you for sharing jstar!
Indeed as we've always said, an expensive blender is not required especially as you begin your journey. KitchenAid makes fantastic inexpensive blenders for light-medium duty. Just be sure to research what fits your needs and budget and adjust as your needs change or as your ability to invest changes. We went through 3 less-expensive kitchen blenders before we invested in our first Vitamix. The most important thing is that you keep the good, fresh whole foods in your diet no matter your budget. |

I'm very excited to get a Vitamix 5200 as I would like to make my own natural peanut butter without anything added (including oil). Is this possible? And if so, how smooth does the nut butter get? Are there any hints/suggestions to getting the smoothest nut butter without additives and without burning the motor?
Thank you so much!!! |

I started doing mostly green smoothies about Feb 1st of this year 2010 and its been about 6 months. I have lost about 25lbs which doesn't sound like a lot but I went from a size 36 to size 32 jeans. I look so much better now and feel great. I haven't wore 32 jeans in about 20 years and still can't be live I'm dong it. I also wear medium shirts now not extra large. My cholesterol was 250 when I started and after 3 months had dropped down to 180. I haven't had it checked since but I'm sure its lower. I can not tell folks enough how this has changed my health and my life. I'm hooked for life. I don't look at food the same way anymore. I don't think of food as something to eat of taste or pleasure although I can but I think more of what is it doing for me and how good or bad is it. As we get older we need to do this because our body can't fend off the fat, salt and all the other bad stuff we use to ingest when we were young. I eat way less then I did and I never feel hungry or deprived and I crave pretty much nothing now. I love it!!!

I went to the Kitchen aid website and found the area for Refurbished blenders and bought a very nice 5 speed heavy duty blender which they also sell on eBay. It was regularly $150 and I got it delivered to my door for $76. I have been using it everyday for the last 5 months and it hasn't skipped a beat. It works very very good. Its probably not quite as good as a Blendtec but hey, its much much cheaper and a great way to get started to see if you will keep doing it without the large investment. I'm very supprised no one has mentioned this blender. I have seen several blender comparisons that did not include the two big guns and this one always wins to me it should be third in line. My mom bought the one that is endorsed by Montel Williams and it does work pretty good but is very cheap and is a pain to operate you have to lock the jar to the base then lock the lid and its pretty hard to do my mom is in her 70's and she cant even do it. What a waste of money it was for her. I love my kitchen aid and will buy another one when it dies most likely. Just thought I would share since not everyone can afford a $400+ blender to get started.
Here is a link to a blender and the next one is to the seller. http://cgi.ebay.com/KitchenAid-5-Speed-Blender-Polycarb-KSB560-Silver-Met-/360276679174?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Small_Kitchen_Appliances_US&hash=item53e229da06 kitchenaid |
