Blendtec Overview

The last Blendtec release brought more selection, more colors, more packages and a lot more choice. It is our hope that our exclusive new model Blendtec review will help to answer questions and get clear on which model is best for you.

More Power:
Newer model naming was based on the power each has – the 560 model has a 1560 watt motor while the 675 has a 1675 watt motor, the Blendtec 725 boasts 1725 watts. See the pattern? Also with the new Blendtec blenders we see the return of reported horsepower. *NOTE: Since the original writing of this review, Blendtec has slimmed down the models they offer. We include those discontinued for comparison of what is available.

Blendtec Series Organization

The previous Signature Series, and some Blendtec Designer models have been discontinued (you may find them from retailers as old stock – be sure to confirm that a retailer is an authorized dealer). Now models are organized into three different series models: Classic, Designer, and the Pro Series. The differences between the Classic and Designer is in the motor technology, interface control panel, and housing design. The Pro Series takes blending to the highest level with added features not found in any of the other series.

Blendtec Classic

Blendtec ClassicThe Classic Blendtec blenders include the Blendtec Fit which represents the streamlined, most affordable Blendtec blender, the 570 (with limited distribution),and 575, all built upon the discontinued Signature Series base. All Classic Blendtec, ranging in power from 1475 watts to 1575 watts, continue with the soft button controls and interface found in the previous models.

Blendtec Designer

Blendtec Designer SeriesWhat remains of the Blendtec Designer series is the 650. This series introduces a more advanced pre-programmed blending technology with more speed and blend cycle options. With power ranging from 1560 watts to 1725 watts we saw the power bar continuing to be raised.

Blendtec Total Blender

Blendtec Total BlenderThe original “classic” Total Blender model remains available. This is the model that launched Blendtec blenders to the top of competition.

In addition to the above models, there is the Pro Series which includes the Professional 800, and a Refurbished option. The Pro 800 model being the most powerful blender offered for the home. In addition, for the first time in a residential model, the Blendtec 800 includes Stealth Technology making it the “world’s quietest blender“.

Sean, while both companies have had their jar issues in the past, Blendtec with their seal failing and Vitamix with their black flecks gasket – the quality of the jars currently are equal, in essence very high quality for what they are.

As for commercial vs residential, again for both brands I say things are equal, there is no real difference in the quality of the jars (commercial jars just tend to come with a shorter warranty).

In regard to blending jars, the bottom line is, aside from minor usability issues stated above, the Vitamix and Blendtec jars are of equal quality and value.

I am considering between Blendtec Fit and Blendtec Total Blender (Costco)
Which one would have better performance?
Actually I already ordered Total Blender from Costco but found good deal for Fit model.
If Costco one still has better performance, I would keep it. Otherwise, I will get Fit model…

Performance of the Total Blender and Fit is essentially the same. The benefit of the Total Blender vs Fit is that the Total has more blending versatility with more speeds and preprogrammed cycles.

Also consider which jar comes with the blender. The fit is typically the FourSide while the Total can be either the FourSide or the WildSide depending upon the specific package.

Anthony,

Blendtec blenders are made to perform. Every model can do a great job at making fruit smoothies, whole juices, and soups. Therefore which model to choose depends primarily on your budget and any specific features you may want.

Generally speaking we prefer the designer models over the total blender or the classic models because of their improved design which reduces noise volume when blending. The Designer 625 is a great option that offers most everything that Blendtec is known for. If budget is a major factor then you might want to consider a refurbished Blendtec at a reduced price.

For the most part we recommend purchasing online direct from Blendtec. That way you are assured of getting the latest product and customer support (and you will get free shipping when using our links & code). Purchasing from a retailer can also be a good option – just be sure to confirm that the retailer is an authorized Blendtec dealer before making the purchase. Blendtec will only honor warranty on blenders purchased direct or from authorized dealers.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Hi,

I’m trying to decide between the designer 675 & 725 models. Which would you choose? I know there’s a slight power difference. I don’t know how much of a difference that does or does not make. I’m also aware that there’s a bit more versatility in speed control offered in the 725. How significant of an advantage do these additional speeds offer? I’m sorry for my ignorance.

Hello Denver!

You seem to have a good handle on the differences between the Blendtec 725 and 675. The power difference is minimal and not very discernible. The speed control of the 725 is a nice-to-have; personally, we have really grown attached to it although the 8 speeds of the 675 is sufficient.

Ultimately.the main advantage is the intelligent blending of the SmartBlend Technology, which can be quite useful for improving your blending technique, and the included Blend Rewards program.

Both are amazing blenders, and you will be very satisfied with either one. Let us know if we can be of further service.

To Your Health,

Hello, Thank you for a thorough comparison! I wanted to know if you had any issues with leaking? I want to purchase a blendtec but upon reading reviews the issue of having to continue replacing the jar because of the rubber gasket at the bottom deteriorating is giving me second thoughts… Is there any precautions to take to prevent this? Is it more like random occurrences that may happen or is it just a con I have to take into account when purchasing a blendtec? What are your thoughts?

Got Greensreply
September 6, 2016 at 7:01 am
– In reply to: elly

Good day elly, thank you for your feedback!

Yes, there have been some reports about leaking containers in the past and Blendtec has been making improvements in their gasket components since. In the 9+ years of Blendtec blending we have not had a single jar leak. The very few reports we received regarding the leaking all happened in 2012 – maybe their was a bad batch?

In our view, while a leaking jar is possible, it is very rare and if you take good care of your jars, you should not expect any issue. As a precaution, we highly recommend that you never put jars in the dishwasher. The detergents and extreme high temperature that some dishwashers use can compromise the gasket and can even warp the jar (we have seen all levels of damage from dishwashers). We have never put a jar in the dishwasher, we always hand wash immediately after use.

I hope that answers your questions. If we can be of further help please let us know.

The 475 has limited availability as it is produced for limited distribution while the Total Blender is direct from Blendtec. At this time they are about the same price and the difference is that the 475 is a feature reduced version of the Total Blender, which is a little more powerful with the WildSide+ jar, 5 more programs and 7 more speeds giving you more control and versatility.

The Total Blender:
– WildSide+ Jar
– 6 program cycles
– 10 speeds

Classic 475:
– FourSide Jar
– 1 program cycle
– 3 speeds

Let us know if you have any other questions.

I bought Costco 570 model Blendtec about three months back and then got a twister jar too, just to have homemade almond butter. When it works the butter is good. But the twister jar started leaking within a month, exchanged it for another, which soon stopped working, all within a month or two. I am very frustrated and am thinking of returning the whole thing. Before I do that, is there I am doing something wrong? I hate to think of returning it.

I am sorry to hear of your difficulties with the Twister Jar. We are not aware of and issues/customer complaints with the twister jar in general. While it is possible that you have received a defective jar, having 2 “bad” jars in such a short time is unusual. It is hard to know if you are doing “something wrong” without having more information about exactly what you have been doing. Having a conversation with customer service (1-800-253-6383 M-F 7am-7pm MST) could help shed some light on your issue.

i would love to see a comparison of all the models showing temperature rise of water after 3 minutes on highest speed. how long each one takes to make butter after one cup of peanuts. is the small difference in wattage worth the difference in price for the final results.

Sam, we do not have data for the tests you are requesting but we have added them to the list for future test considerations. I recommend that you don’t relate wattage difference directly with price difference. While there is a small wattage difference among models, it doesn’t result in a discernible result difference for similar models.

The main factor in price difference is in the features offered.

Costco (online) is currently offering $100 off the Blendtec® Pro Series Blender with WildSide Jar & Twister Jar – Selling at $399. There are no reviews yet on the Costco site. Do you know anything about this machine? It does not say if it is Pro 750 or some hybrid situation. Thanks!

Hello Cindy. The only Blendtec Pro that I am aware of that Costco is selling online is the Professional 800 for $1300. They used to sell the older “Professional Series” which was created to mount into a counter but that model has been discontinued and replaced with the Pro 750. Does it look like the 750 (check the watts and length of warranty – the older model was only 7-years)? Without additional information, I would guess that it is the discontinued “Professional Series”.

Thanks Got Greens for your assistance! It definitely is not the Professional 800. They refer to the Professional Series™ in the description. The on-line user manual seems to cover both the 750 and 800 so I am guessing it is the 750. It is 1560 watts and the description says both jars have a 7 year warranty….but does not mention the motor! It says it is for built in or table top use, which I do not understand at all. They are very sneaky in their descriptions and it sure makes it difficult to research things at Costco. It seems like a very good deal at $399 but since there is not a single review it makes me feel like there is something wrong with it. The on-line sale ends 5/31 and includes shipping and handling.

My pleasure Cindy. That is the “Professional Series” model. It wasn’t a big seller, likely because of the in-the-counter design. If you are not comfortable with that model, there are other Blendtec models in the $399 price range that may serve your needs.

No, you do not need a different jar. The WildSide jar can make ice cream and butters, but the Twister Jar does make them quicker and more efficiently. We recommend that you purchase it directly but you they are also available from other select retailers that sell Blendtec.

Hi — in your opinion, do the presets on the Total Classic work better than the 60s/90s/smoothie buttons only on the Classic 575? I am mostly wondering about whole fruit. Can I get the same results with just using speed buttons or do the presets actually do something different, like slow then fast? I am choosing between the two of them but leaning toward the 575 since it is a newer model. But if the Total presets do something different, that would lean me toward that. thanks for your input.

– In reply to: Liz Wentland

Hello Liz,

The Total Blender has 6 pre-program cycles, all of which vary the speed in different increments during the cycle to match related task. The 575 timed cycles are designed for longer, 60/90 second, blends and do not vary the speed mid cycle. The ‘smoothie’ cycle is the one 575 blend cycle that does automatically speed up slow down.

As for which “works better” that is difficult to answer as that is more personal preference in how you like to use your blender. You can get the same results as any blend cycle by using the manual incremental speed buttons, especially with whole fruit, after you get used to your blender.

As with everything there are benefits and drawbacks. The benefit of the pro-program cycles is that they are consistently the same and completely automatic, excellent for repeating the same recipes on a regular basis – the drawback is they do not allow for precision control to perfect a wider range recipes and blends. If a cycle doesn’t do the blend the way you want, you will need to resort to manual blending.

Other differences between the two models include: warranty period, 8-year for 575, 7-year for Total, and the base design is slightly different with different color choices.

I hope that answers your questions. Please let us know if you have more.

Thank you for responding. I do appreciate the comments. The Total Classic is still available on Costco, which is why I thought it was a current model. It comes with the full 8 year warranty on Costco. But it is only reconditioned on the Blendtec site, which is why it was confusing. If I can figure out how to do whole fruit on the 575, and that is the newer model, that is what I would lean towards.

Is there any guide to the speeds on the presets so they can work on the other models?

I have just discovered your site and your Facebook page. Good information and I am now following!

Oh yes, Costco currently does have stock of the discontinued Total Blender new with 8-year warranty, I can certainly understand the confusion.

You can get an idea of the preset speeds from the charts included in the Total Blender manual although it does not include exact speeds and times.

Hello Muntha,

if I understand what you are wanting to know correctly, yes – the 570 is stable enough to blend without holding it. Do keep in mind that we recommend to never leave your Blendtec unattended while blending as it is possible for the blender to move some or the lid to be pushed off.

Tisha,

The 600 is functionally almost the same as the 575 but in the designer style and less functional/powerful than the 625. I know, it can be very confusing.

Blendtec basically creates unique models for Costco to sell but they have to be “different” than the models that Blendtec makes for all other retail sellers. The result is some type of hybrid. The goal is to create model differentiation so everyone is satisfied but unfortunately, this practice more often results in consumer confusion.

I hope that helps.

Hi – I would love your opinion. I recently purchased two Blendtecs at Costco and I am trying to decide which is the better deal (and which one I return). I bought one about a month ago (still in the box) – it is the Total Bender Classic for $299. Then today I got the Blendtec 570 for $249. Thanks so much!

– In reply to: Cindy

Cindy,

Congratulations on your decision to get a Blendtec. The Total Blender and 570 are similar with essentially the same power. The main difference is in the program cycles. The Total Blender has 6 different cycles and 10 manual speeds, the 570 has only 1 blending cycle and 4 manual speeds. Also, the Total Blender is an older, discontinued model, and is sold as left over stock or direct through Blendtec at a discount.

So there is 2 main things to consider: 1 – determine if you would like more blending cycles and speeds. 2 – if the difference in price really matters to you. If you are wanting the best “deal” then I would recommend considering the reconditioned Total Blender, on sale now for $209.95 with FourSide jar or $229.95 with WildSide jar (this price includes shipping and tax) for Cyber Monday.

I hope that helps!

Very helpful – thanks for taking the time. Still a little confused – the Total Belnder comes with the recipe book etc., but the older Wildside Jar. I know it also has more program cycles, however I will use it primarily for smoothies, and probably soup and ice cream. Do you think the 570 still does all that well? I would like to save money, but I have been through so many blenders that I just want the one that will last.

The 570 will do a great job of making smoothies, ice cream, and soup as well.

Investing in a Blendtec will assure you of getting a blender that lasts (their now standard 8-year warranty is unmatched). There is no comparison regarding the performance and longevity of a Blendtec vs common kitchen blenders.

Erica,
There are times that Costco has the best deal on Blendtec, but it’s not always the best. The Black Friday deal is $250 for the 570, valid through November 30th. The 570 is a newer model with stripped down features.

If it’s about getting the best deal or price then that would not be the best. Right now, you can get a Recon Total Blender for $210 or the Designer for $330. Both are more powerful Blendtec’s with more funtions/features than the 570. You can get these deals HERE
