Raw Dates are amazing food!

They make a great "sugar substitute" as well. Just blend a bunch of them with some water to make a syrup and use that in place of sugar.

Welcome trish,

How has your Vitamix been treating you the rest of January? Keep spreading the word - everyone can benefit from adding green smoothies.

As already mentioned, some mustard greens are very strong while others are not.

I've added a recipe for mustard greens for you in the recipes section:

We've had a request for a recipe with mustard greens. Mustard Greens are one of my favorites because I love the spicy bite that they have. Keep in mind that different mustard greens can have very different amount of "bite" - taste the green before you use is it.

2   cups mustard greens
1   cups fresh spinach
1   banana
2   peaches

~ 2 Cups water
(or to desired consistency)

Blend that smoothie in your Vitamix until silky smooth and delicious! Makes about 2 ~16oz servings. ENJOY!

Smoothie Recipes / The Pink Pineapple
« Last post by charitym0930 on January 25, 2011, 03:26:20 PM »
I actually tried a very unhealthy version of this smoothie the first time at a local TCBY. Of course they use concentrates that are high in sugar, but I thought the flavors would be spot on and even better with fresh ingredients. Though mine isn't really pink after I add my greens  ;)
The Pink Pineapple:
2 ripe bananas (I like mine frozen)
1 1/2 cup strawberries
1 cup pineapple
2 cups spinach (or more to taste)

I just love the flavors of strawberry and banana, but adding the kick of pineapple is so yummy!  ;D Hope y'all enjoy!
Wow - how awesome for you to want to make such a change! Cold turkey with so many things is a huge challenge.

The detox period varies from person to person. With changing so much at one time, be sure that you are eating enough of the good stuff to keep up your energy - drink plenty of water. Stick with it, the results will be worth it!
Welcome Introductions / just started green smoothies, today I feel awful!!

got a vitamix and decided to go cold turkey onto green smoothies, gave up meat, coffee, wine, bread etc. This is my sixth day and I suddenly feel awful. So tired, cold and generally miserable. I know this is to be expected but generally how long will these symtoms last and is there anything I can do to alleviate them?

Dates are a great idea!  There is even more nutritional value when you buy the pitted ones and stuff them with raw almonds:)

Hello trish!

Great for you for starting on your green smoothies and what a fantastic influence you are for your hubby and son!

It's true that most mustard greens are strong and complex in flavor - usually with a little spicy bite. Dandelion is strong as well. Watch what is in the spring mix as some things like escarole and endive and radicchio can be very bitter.

I really love mustard greens as they are so complex and full of flavor. But not all mustard greens are created equal - they vary greatly with regard to how strong they are but unfortunately are almost always labeled the same as just "mustard greens".

Banana is a good flavor neutralizer as is orange.

Hello all!  Just got a vitamix for Christmas and have been blending green smoothies for a little over a week now.  Decided to do this for health reasons and with the hopes that my hubby and son would join in!  Well, as of last weekend they have both been drinking 1 to 2 green smoothies a day, right along with me!  :)

Anyone know of a good recipe to add mustard greens to?  I've only read that using these greens are not for the faint of heart and are on the bitter side.  I'm starting to get used to the mixed "spring" greens and dandelion, but they are both bitter to me even with fruit mixed in.  HELP!!!
