Vitamix v1200 Review Overview

The Vitamix Venturist V1200 is part of the Smart System blender release that delivers the high powered results expected from any Vitamix blender. Like all newer full-size models, the v1200 has a 12amp, 2.2 peak horsepower motor that won’t disappoint.

Features

Vitamix v1200 FeaturesThe Vitamix v1200 comes with the Variable Speed Control dial Vitamix is so known for which gives you complete control over all of your blends. You can make smooth, fine blends to chunky salsas.

The Pulse feature is also included. This provides you the ability to do more controlled chopping and blending to create just the right amount of chunk or smoothness you desire.

In addition, there are the two new features that come with the Smart Series release. The Vitamix v1200 comes with a built-in Digital Timer that counts up while you are blending. And of course includes the Self-Detect wireless connectivity that defines the Smart System Series which communicates with the container used.

The Costco v1200 bundle, in addition to the 64-ounce container sometimes includes a 20-ounce blending cup and 8-ounce blending bowl. In our view these two are the least useful of the available containers. If you desire a second container for more versatility we recommend the 48-ounce container.

The v1200 comes with the 10-year full Warranty like all other Smart System blenders which includs all Ascent Series blenders.

Vitamix Venturist vs Ascent

When Vitamix released its Smart Series blenders consisting of the four Ascent Series models, they shortly thereafter created the Venturist for Costco stores. The Venturist have some of the same features as the Ascent Series including Self-Detect and Digital Timer display as well as some of the look from the Classic Series like the 5200 and 5300.

Differences

While the both the Venturist and Ascent share the same main feature upgrades they do differ in several ways.

Design & Aesthetics

The Vitamix v1200 looks different than the Ascent models. It appears more like the legacy G-Series models with the knobs and switches which also feel and function more like a Classic Vitamix, bigger and bolder. It also lacks the sharp stainless steel plate on the front. If you prefer a more modern sleek design, you will find it with an Ascent.

Noise

The v1200 motor base has less sound dampening technology than the Ascent Series. The Venturist motor base without a container tends to average ~84 dBA while the A2300 averages ~78 dBA. Let’s face it, all Vitamix blenders are powerful and they can be loud when operating. Once you have ingredients blending in your container the difference is minor but for those more sensitive to noise this may be a consideration.

v1200 vs Ascent Models

The Vitamix Venturist blenders are hybrid models made specifically for Costco store. Part of the agreement is that they have to be somehow different than what Vitamix sells directly.
Vitamix v1200 vs Ascent
We have described the similarities and differences in general above. Broadly speaking, the Vitamix v1200 is like the A2300 with the a similar timer function of the A3300 in a Classic style and build. Below we highlight some specific differences between the v1200 vs Ascent models. For complete details on the differences among Ascent models see our Ascent Review.

v1200 vs A2300

The v1200 has the digital timer that can be set to countdown as well as count up. The A2300 digital timer only counts up.

v1200 vs A2500

The v1200 has the digital timer that can be set to countdown while the A2500 digital timer only counts up. The major difference is that the A2500 has three programmed blend cycle settings for smoothies, frozen dessert, and hot soup.

v1200 vs A3300

The major difference between these two models is that the A 3300 has a flat capacitive touch interface buttons for all switch and bottom operations while the v1200 has physical switches for on/off and pulse and push buttons for setting the timer. Both models have the digital timer that can be set to countdown as well as count up although it takes longer to set the timer on the v1200 with its raised buttons. The variable speed dial on the A3300 is the premium continues dial upgrade.

v1200 vs A3500

The differences between the v1200 and the A2500 are the same as above with the A3300 with the addition that the A3500 comes with five programmed blend cycles. In addition, the A2500 has the metal base option which adds a little more sound dampening when blending.

Vitamix v1200 vs E320 / 5300

The other model you are likely to find while shopping for Vitamix in Costco is the Explorian E320. This was the model that replaced the Vitamix 5300.
Vitamix v1200 vs E320
The main difference between the v1200 and Vitamix E320 and 5300 is that the v1200 has the newer technology including the timer and self-detect containers. Another consideration is that the v1200 comes with a 10-year warranty vs a 7-year for the E320. Both blenders can blend anything equally. Deciding which one is better is of personal choice and budget. If cost is a major factor consider buying either one Reconditioned at a large savings.

Bottom Line

For the Costco fans the Vitamix v1200 is the newest model they carry and it is a great machine. For those wanting the latest and greatest or something with more features then we recommend an Ascent model over the Veturist model.

If it’s mostly about cost and savings then we suggest considering the purchase of a Reconditioned or a Reconditioned Ascent or Reconditioned Explorian when they are available.

No matter your choice, you will be happy with your Vitamix.

Hello, One more question. Are all the Vitamix blenders made with steel or do some of the models have plastic parts?
Thank You

Nearly all of the Vitamix mechanical parts are metal – motor, blades, etc… The shell, housing and containers are primarily plastic.

Hello, I have the Vitamix 5200 and I want the Vitamix venturist 1200. I saw it being demonstrated at Costco and it was considerably quieter than my 5200. The information above does not suggest that it is that much quieter. Do you know the decibels of the 5200 compared to the Venturist 1200? This is a big part of my decision to buy it. Also since my 5200 is about 10 years old should I be looking to replace it or just stick with it until it dies?
Thanks So Much, I am having such a hard time making this decision especially since I have 3 containers for my 5200.

C.J. in our experience the 5200 and v1200 are pretty much the same “loudness”, decibels range 85-90 dBA and can reach more. How loud a Vitamix actually is depends upon other factors such as the surface the blender is on and what is being blended. In our experience we have not seen any discernible noise level improvement in the V1200 over the 5200.

Hello Anne,
If you like the 5200, I suggest you consider the Certified Reconditioned Standard, which is a 5200 model. If you are particularly liking the Classic design and features, I suggest you also consider the Reconditioned Pro 300 (on sale now for £80 off).

Let us know if we can be of further service.
