U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission & Health Canada Announce Recall

Vitamix has voluntarily issued a recall of their Self-Detect 20-ounce and 8-ounce blending Containers. These are containers sold separately for the Vitamix Ascent and Venturist Series (and with some Venturist 1200 packages), specifically those containers manufactured March 2018 and before. This recall is for products sold in Canada and the US.

Vitamix identified a potential safety issue with these containers through their ongoing quality inspection program. Vitamix states that “it is possible that the container may separate from the blade base, exposing the blades to the consumers”. Operation and performance of the blender’s motor or base are not affected by this issue.

The recall ONLY affects the specific containers mentioned with manufacture dates of March 2018 (03-2018) and before. The blade date code is laser-etched onto the top of the blade in the blade base.

Repair Kits at No Cost

Recall BladeVitamix is providing free repair kits for customers to easily implement themselves. The repair kit contains a set of newly designed gaskets (rings) that prevent the container from separating from the blade base during use. These repair kits are being sent to all consumers who purchased these containers for whom Vitamix and its retail partners have records. Other consumers may contact Vitamix directly at 1-888-847-8842 to receive their kits. They can also visit www.recallrtr.com/blender.

Below we answer most questions about the recall.

Recall FAQ

  • What was wrong with the original ring?
  • Vitamix identified a potential safety issue whereby it is possible that the container may separate from the blade base, exposing the blades. The company is providing customers with an easy-to-use repair kit to remedy the issue.

  • Can I continue to use the products with the old rings until the new rings arrive?
  • No. Stop using the recalled blending containers immediately and complete the registration process for this recall to receive a free repair kit.

  • Do I need to change all of the rings?
  • Yes, remove and cut the old rings on all cups and bowls, then install the new rings per the instructions provided in the repair kit.

  • When will I receive a repair kit?
  • You may call 1-888-847-8842 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. (Central Time) Monday through Friday to request a kit.

  • What is in the repair kit?
  • Consumers will receive a packet of rubber gaskets (rings) that they can install on the blade bases of affected containers. They are instructed to remove and destroy the old gaskets, and to install the new gaskets.

  • Are all Ascent and Venturist Series 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers affected?
  • Only those containers manufactured March 2018 and earlier are affected. Each blade is stamped with the manufacture date. Blades dated 3-18 (March 2018) and earlier require a replacement seal. The issue has been fully addressed in containers manufactured in April 2018 and beyond, and those containers can be used freely.

  • Are the blending cups that come with Vitamix S-Series machines (S30 and S55) subject to this recall? How about the Personal Cup Adapter?
  • None of those products are affected by this recall, which is limited to Smart Systems Ascent and Venturist Series 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers.

  • What is the difference between the Ascent and Venturist cups and bowls, and the blending cups that come with Vitamix S-Series blenders?
  • S-Series blending cups are of a different design and are not subject to this recall.
