Backpacking in the Raw

backpacking-1

As you might have gathered from the title, I am a backpacker. In fact I am a high mountain trail addict! When I started backpacking some 16 years ago or so I was logging 900+ trail miles a year with a pack. Unfortunately, I don’t get to see near that many trail miles now that I’m more “grown up” with a family.

One of my good friends has decided to hit the trails of the Emigrant Wilderness for a 40th birthday celebration. I can not wait to get back to the Sierra Nevada mountains – I just don’t get to see them often enough anymore. Not only is this trip special because of its celebratory cause but it’s also going to be new and different for 2 reasons. One, we will be hiring a pack service to haul the majority of our gear the 11+ miles into the wilderness and two – it will be the first ever backpacking trip that I shall be doing completely raw!

The last trip I took up onto Mount Shasta I was mostly raw with homemade dehydrated treats and some different choices I made upon food planning but I did not resist the increadible salmon jerky, flavored nuts and chocalate treats that were passed around the campfire each evening.

This trip will be different!
